5 Things to Avoid After Your Medical-Grade Facial

Smiling woman with glowing skin from medical-grade facial in East Greenwich, RIA medical-grade facial is an investment in your skin’s health and radiance, but what you do afterward can make or break your results. While it’s tempting to go back to your usual routine right away, your skin needs time and care to heal and renew.

At the Andrea M Doyle MD Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics, Dr. Andrea Doyle and our caring team combine the latest medical-grade facial techniques with a compassionate, patient-centered approach to help you stay beautiful and confident. We’re honored to be trusted by our patients in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut for advanced aesthetic care that truly makes you feel ‘centred’.

Here are five key things you should avoid after your treatment to protect that post-facial glow.

1. Avoid Heavy Makeup

Your freshly treated skin needs to breathe. Applying foundation or other heavy cosmetics too soon can clog your pores and disrupt the healing process. If you do wear makeup, choose lightweight, non-comedogenic products, or better yet, consider going makeup-free for 24 hours.

2. Skip Harsh Skincare Products

Put away your exfoliants, retinols, and strong acids for at least a few days. Your skin barrier is more sensitive after a medical-grade facial, and using aggressive products can lead to irritation, redness, or even damage. Follow your provider’s aftercare instructions and use gentle, hydrating skincare instead.

3. Say No to Excessive Sun Exposure

Post-facial skin is extra vulnerable to UV rays. Spending too much time outdoors without protection can cause hyperpigmentation and undo the benefits of your facial. If you need to be outside, wear broad-spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen, and don’t forget a wide-brimmed hat for added defense.

4. Don’t Hit the Gym Right Away

Working out may seem harmless, but sweat and heat can irritate your sensitive skin and clog pores. Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, and hot showers for at least 24-48 hours after your treatment to reduce the risk of breakouts or inflammation.

5. Hands Off!

It’s tempting to touch your smooth, glowing skin, but resist the urge. Picking or poking can transfer bacteria, cause breakouts, and interfere with healing. Keep your hands clean and off your face as much as possible.
